Between our smartphones, fast food and quick and convenient transportation, our lives are full of luxury. But all luxuries come at a price.

London illustrator and animator Steve Cutts is most drawn to creating powerful, subversive imagery. In many of his illustrations, he perfectly captures the dark side of life in the modern, Western world.

"I'm drawn to and fascinated by the more broken aspects of society and the world is rapidly changing, so in this respect, there's never a dull moment in terms of inspiration," Cutts told Mashable.

Cutts' twisted and ominous images touch on some of society's overarching issues like greed, consumerism and corporate life. Each piece, much like the idea he's trying to convey, has a unique style ranging from more realistic, 3-D styles to flatter, cartoon-like illustrations.

"In general, I've always found it restricting to stick to any one style; I like to mix things up. It also depends what kind of visual gets the point across more effectively," he said.

While his illustrations have a twinge of dark humor, he also hopes they can start a conversation. "It's really to get people talking and thinking about the society we live in, and how we can maybe do things better. If the art I create can do even a little bit of that then I've done my job," he said.
