A special edition of the MacBook Pro with Retina display is up for auction. If you look closely at the Apple logo on the back of the Steve Jobs Tribute MacBook, you'll notice the regulation backlit logo has been artfully altered into the silhouette of the late tech luminary.
Three of these customized laptops are currently being offered by Uncover, an Amsterdam design company specializing in customizing MacBook backs with laser-cut modifications:
"We’ve meticulously cut the silhouette of Jobs from the edges of the Apple logo and filled it up again with the highest quality epoxy. And each has the beautiful but lesser known 'You can change things' quote by Steve Jobs laser-tattooed on the bottom, as a covert mantra for inspiration."
Uncover offers a variety of customized MacBooks. The company says all its custom MacBook covers emit light in exactly the same way the Apple logo does on unmodified MacBooks. These hand-crafted graphics can feature logos and custom artwork encompassing almost any design.
In the auction, the Steve Jobs Tribute MacBook has a minimum bid of €9500 (that's $12,405 USD), and the bidding will be going on until Monday night at Midnight ET (Monday at 9 p.m. PT). Uncover won't be making any profit -- proceeds from the sale will go to two different charities: GetItDone, a social media crowdfunding charity that concentrates on projects that stimulate positive change, and SellanApp, a crowdsourced platform that supports iOS apps that are valuable to society.
The MacBook Pro offered will be the most fully equipped model available, loaded with a Retina display, 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 768GB solid-state drive.
