SOPA Backers Abandon the Bill After Massive Internet Protests
PIPA co-sponsor Florida Sen. Marco Rubio pulled his name from the controversial bill, and SOPA co-sponsor Arizona Rep. Ben Quayle pulled his name after massive internet protests on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Several popular online services, including Reddit and Wikipedia, went dark for several hours to raise awareness of these potentially harmful bills.
Several other U.S. senators announced they no longer support these bills, but the fight against SOPA is still not won, as over 30 senators are still pro-SOPA and many still haven't decided.
PlayStation Network to Go Offline for Maintenance
PlayStation Network will go offline Thursday, Jan. 19 from 11 AM to midnight ET, announced Sony on the official PlayStation blog. During the maintenance, many services will be unavailable, including PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP, and Media Go, PlayStation Network Account registration and management and PlayStation Home.
LoveFilm Is Coming to LG's Smart TV Platform
Amazon's UK video streaming service LoveFilm is coming to LG's Smart TV platform, LG has announced. Smart TV's already have over 250 apps in the UK, but LoveFilm Instant will be the first film and TV subscription streaming app on the platform.
