Google Maps has added Street View to its API, enabling the hundreds of mashups created using the tool to now include street level photos from the ever increasing number of cities that [img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Google has added over the past few months. Details on how to implement the new functionality are available on the Google Maps blog.

While I don’t presently use Street View much on Google Maps, I can see it being a very nice feature for some of the mashups that use the API. For example, imagine a real estate mashup that uses Google Maps – not only can you see where the house or apartment is located, but you can see what it looks like from the outside, assuming it has been indexed by Google. The same functionality would also be highly useful for hotels, restaurants, or even for just doing some hard-core stalking via Twittervision.
