The 'Suicide Squad' cast of supervillains is the hottest thing in Hollywood
Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg.

LOS ANGELES -- Gee whiz, Warner Bros., leave something for the rest of the superhero movies, eh? The Suicide Squad cast, which the studio confirmed Tuesday in a press release, is a who's-who of young Hollywood (hey, Will Smith still looks pretty good for 46).

In this glorious nuclear-arms-race of superhero movies, anything less would be a disappointment. Warner Bros./DC shot for the moon on this team-up, scheduled for August 2016, and it looks like they hit it.

David Ayer (Fury, Training Day) is writing and directing the tale of six DC supervillains recruited by the U.S. government for a last shot at redemption: A mission that's all but doomed to fail.

Check out the cast and character descriptions below.

Will Smith as Deadshot

Primarily a Batman villain, Deadshot first crept up in the 1950s as a super-assassin and antihero who crossed the Dark Knight when he tried to replace him. Uses a wide variety of weapons, including wrist-mounted pistols.

Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg

Flagg was a three-generations character that started as an original member of the Suicide Squadron in World War II. If the Suicide Squad were the A-Team, Flagg would the the Hannibal.

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn

The Joker's girlfriend and sidekick and a supervillain in her own right. She suffers innumerable abuses at the hands of her sadistic beau, and kind of enjoys that -- a topic that Warner Bros. will need to handle delicately.

Jared Leto as the Joker

You know, THE JOKER.

Jai Courtney as 'Boomerang'

Courtney is Australian, just like Boomerang -- originally called "Captain Boomerang" in the comics. He used his boomerang skills for crime after people mocked his traveling show (can you imagine if someone had a traveling boomerang show today? The Internet would never let it rest). Hollywood keeps trying to throw Courtney away (Jack Reacher, A Good Day to Die Hard, I, Frankenstein) but he keeps coming back.

Cara Delevingne as Enchantress

The 22-year-old model's acting career is still in its early stages, but this could be the role that works its magic for the doe-eyed Brit.
