While many people around the U.S. are gearing up for snow season and thinking about hitting the slopes, it’s still beautiful and warm in Hawaii, because obviously.

At the very first Pe’ahi Challenge off the coast of Maui, competitors rode massive swells with wave faces of 40 and 60 feet. Maui local Billy Kemper won the challenge, and dedicated his triumph to his brother.

"To paddle Pe'ahi has been a dream of mine for a very long time," he said, "and to be out there with some of my favorite surfers and best friend -- I'm just speechless."
