If you can't get enough Hello Kitty, everyone's favourite animated Japanese cat is now the face of a new diner in the Sydney suburb of Chatswood.

There are touches of Hello Kitty everywhere, from the statue that greets you out the front, the big-bow shaped neon sign and the stools alongside the counter. There is also an interesting selection of Hello Kitty food options to fill up on.

The concept for the diner first came together in Nov. 2014, and finally opened one year later.

"I've always been in love with Hello Kitty -- since I was a child," Dorothy Wang, the owner of Hello Kitty Diner, told Mashable Australia, during a Monday afternoon visit.

"A lot of families, teenagers and of course Hello Kitty fans hang out here," Dorothy said, pointing to the diner's cutesy appeal. "Families tend to make a day out of it, and dress their kids up in Hello Kitty."

The diner itself serves burgers, elaborate desserts and milkshakes. Wang says the concept has been thoroughly popular, and that she's looking to open a second Sydney diner, as well as locations in other Australian cities.

Here's how Mashable Australia's visit to the strange world went down.

The burgers might be mean looking....

...but the decor certainly isn't.

The verdict: Come for the Hello Kitty, stay for the fries

There's no doubt that a lot of people will come along for the novelty factor, and it does feel like you've been transported to Japan with those bright colours, adorable animations, and upbeat J-pop music.

It's a quieter Monday afternoon when I arrive, which is a respite from the busy weekends the place undoubtedly experiences, evident from the queue tape and poles out front.

Aside from the diner's attention grabbing fit-out, they're keen to prove their food credentials, with the owner of popular Sydney outfit Chur Burger, Warren Turnbull, as Hello Kitty Diner's food consultant. Here's what I thought of the food:

The Classic burger consists of a medium-rare patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard and a pickle. It's real juicy, but there isn't enough flavour from the beef and the mustard overwhelms the burger too much for my liking. I'd give this 3/5 stars.

Alongside the burger were the moreish shoestring fries, served with a punchy aioli that will be sure to please those lovers of garlic. Simple, crunchy, hits the spot. 4/5 stars.

The Hello Kitty Diner Soda -- this is a bit of a mystery. It's got hints of apple, citrus and maybe some kind of flower in there. It's interesting to say the least, and reminds me of being a kid and mixing post-mix sodas together at a fast food restaurant. 3.5/5 stars.

It seems like most of the interest is on the Hello Kitty factor -- and also the desserts -- but this writer didn't quite have the room to fit in a fried-chicken cat waffle this time around.
