As Android continues to accelerate across all carriers, Wi-Fi Calling could become one of T-Mobile's distinguishing features. To tackle the problem of poor in-home connections, carriers like AT&T and Verizon Wireless have started selling femtocell base stations to consumers. Femtocells are essentially small cell towers that function by snatching your signal and redistributing it via your home broadband network.
In contrast, T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling relies solely on Kineto Smart W-Fi. This allows the service to travel with the device and work on any Wi-Fi network — not just at your home. And since it's based on an application, there is no extra hardware to buy.
