Tablet Sales Expected to Reach 120 Million This Year [STUDY]

Of those 119 million tablets, approximately 73 million, or 61%, will be iPads, Gartner predicts. The researcher thinks that the Apple device will continue to dominate the tablet market through 2016, despite increased competition from the likes of Amazon and Microsoft.

Sales of Android tablets are expected amount to 37.9 million in 2012, or about half of total iPad sales. That gap is forecast to narrow considerably over the next four-and-a-half years: Android tablet sales are expected to reach 137.6 million by 2016, compared to the iPad's 169.6 million. Microsoft, QNX and other operating systems will trail far behind, per the chart below:
