Tapulous, the iPhone app development firm responsible for the Tap Tap Revenge games, has been acquired by Disney, according to our sources. We have since confirmed the news.
Tapulous, founded in 2008, is one of the best known developers of iPhone applications. Its flagship series, Tap Tap Revenge, has sold millions of copies in the iOS App Store.
Disney has been pushing into the social realm in recent years through acquisitions and investments. In 2007, it acquired Club Penguin, a kid-focused virtual world, for a deal worth $700 million. However, that deal has not panned out as the media giant had hoped. Disney also have a stake in Playdom, a social gaming startup.
We've reached out to Tapulous and Disney for more details. We'll update this report when we hear back from them.
