Ted Cruz took a little jab at Donald Trump during Thursday's Republican presidential debate after arguing with Chris Wallace, a Fox News journalist that was also helping to moderate the event.

Less than half an hour into the debate, Cruz began to argue about the rules of the debate, noting that he had not been allowed to respond to attacks leveled against him from other candidates.

Wallace did not allow Cruz to interrupt adding, "sir, this is a debate."

Cruz responded: "Gosh, if you guys ask one more mean question, I may have to leave the stage."

The joke appeared to be a pretty obvious reference to Trump's absence from the debate. The leading candidate for the Republican nomination pulled out of the debate earlier in the week after Fox News issued a mocking press release about Trump's complains over how Fox News had treated him.

Marco Rubio took Cruz's joke as an opportunity to jump in.
