Most kids today just don't know classic video game themes -- except 'Mario'

We all know the opening bars of The Legend of Zelda's theme music. Its haunting melody can instantly transport us back to our childhoods.

But kids today -- what do they know?

"Classic to me is like, the PS2 era," young Jasser tells the Fine Bros. in the YouTubers' latest video, in which they ask teenagers to identify classic video game themes.

It turns out that while music may be universal, it doesn't always travel forward. While the Super Mario Bros. theme may be universal, few other games have that power. The teenagers interviewed for the clip above stumble through iconic game themes that just haven't made the same impact on modern consoles.

One thing they can identify, though: These were all jams.
