Tesla Roadster owners are in for one last holiday gift.

The sporty electric car produced by Elon Musk's company will soon receive an upgrade to the car's battery that will almost double its range, Musk said on Twitter. The Roadster can currently go about 244 miles on a single change. The new update will bump that number up to 400.

The additional distance now means that the Roadster could just about travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco on one charge.

Released in 2008, the Roadster was Tesla's first production car, but has since been overtaken in popularity and notoriety by the flagship Model S. The upgrade is reportedly a full battery replacement, which will be done for free for the first 2,500 Roadster owners, according to The Verge.

An update to the car had been highly anticipated, with Musk teasing it in conversations on Twitter. Tesla is expected to release more information about the upgrade on Friday.
