The iPlayer website, which is separate from the player itself

I don't think we've seen a single positive review of the BBC's Windows XP-only, Windows Media Player-only, Internet Explorer-only, DRM-constrained iPlayer application. It's surprising then, having reported on the large scale petition against the BBC's hookup with Bill Gates, that the Beeb is now saying the launch was "welcomed".

From today's BBC piece: "The BBC's iPlayer online video service has won a cautious welcome from the first people to download and use it. On chat forums triallists complained about technical problems but others were complimentary about the content on offer and download speeds." Problems, meanwhile, are sidelined as merely "teething troubles".
