'The Daily' Sings Goodbye in Music Video

The Daily published its last edition Friday, and remaining staffers put together a music video to say -- or, rather, sing -- goodbye to the tune of "So Long, Farewell."

The video primarily features The Daily's younger staffers, but Editor-in-Chief Jesse Angelo and Publisher Greg Clayman make appearances from their offices as well.

The Daily launched as an iPad-only publication in February 2011, attracting 100,000 subscribers its first year.

Still, those $0.99-per-week subscription fees were not sufficient to cover the costs of producing the publication, which were estimated at $53 million per year.

Rumors of the title's demise began circulating this summer when owner News Corp. decided to spin off its own, less profitable publishing assets into a standalone company. Speculation was further fueled when 50 of The Daily's 170-member staff were laid off in July.

Some staffers, including Angelo, will go on to work at The Post. Many others will be forced to enter 2013 unemployed.
