Comedy Central launched The Daily Show Headlines Friday, which features clips from new and old episodes, 60-second recaps and exclusive interviews.

"We wanted to provide new and current fans with an app that delivers an easy, entertaining and highly shareable experience for The Daily Show and we think that this app does that," says Ben Hurst, vp of mobile and emerging platforms for Viacom Entertainment Group.

Fans will be able to view extra clips and share them on social media. They'll also be able to set personalized tune-in reminders, access background information about the show's guests and browse popular topics covered in each episode.

Although The Daily Show has been around since 1996, and iOS users had an app available previously for $1.99, this new app is free, available on all platforms and is optimized for the new iPad's retina display.

"We poured through feedback to give customers what they were asking for. Many of this app's features were because we listened to the users and wanted to give the fans exactly what they wanted," says Hurst. "We built an extremely simple user experience that allows users to find what they’re looking for much more easily, and that’s the key -- simplification of this experience and being able to find stuff much more easily."

The app is also compatible with Apple’s AirPlay, so iOS fans can watch clups on-demand through the app as well as at home via Apple TV.
