The Filter Launches Last.fm-style Social Network, WMP Support

The Filter is a music recommendation service which started as a beta in 2006, and is endorsed/evangelized by none other than Peter Gabriel (you know, the guy from Genesis). The site creates playlists from your iTunes library based on "seed" tracks of your choice, and it can automatically create playlists based on your mood (if you want to hit the gym, you probably want to skip the latest Enya album) and update them on your music player. To do this, it analyzes your music listening patterns as well as those of other users, and it gets better over time and as your musical collection grows.

Today, they're launching a Windows Media Player version of the service (also in beta), which works with WMP 10 and 11, on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. The Filter also works with Nokia Symbians - Series 60, Nokia E60, N93 and N80.
