Academics typically love the English language, but they may not always be keen to using the dirtier words.

In a passage of the textbook Psychology: Themes and Variations about the oh-so-important hypothalamus gland, author Wayne Weiten highlights the major roles of the gland using the term the "four Fs."

But instead of including the awful word "fuck," which may corrupt the minds of psychology students, Weiten takes a comical approach by just changing the word to "mating." He of course could have used the word "fornicating," but that just wouldn't be funny at all.

As Redditors pointed out, this is basically the Dad joke of psych teachers, repeated every year much to the enjoyment of new psychology students.

Comment from discussion Well played, biology textbook. I see what you did there..

The snapshot was submitted to the subreddit r/Funny on Saturday, but this wasn't the first time. In 2013, another Redditor pointed out a similar passage.
