The Goldbergs is a treasure of a show that masterfully pulls off the trope of the traditional family-centric sitcom.

So have you been watching? If not, here's the short of it:

Set in a Philadelphia suburb in the 1980s -- and based in part on the formative adolescent years of show creator Adam Goldberg -- The Goldbergs is a hilarious, relatable tale (especially to those of us who grew up in the ‘burbs) packed with recognizable and enjoyable pop culture references. It's kind of like The Wonder Years if Kevin Arnold had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things sci-fi.

Season 3 kicks off tonight at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.

If you haven't seen an episode yet, here are a few reasons you might want to check it out.

Though the show does have a central plot (which is essentially "awkwardness in adolescence") you won't be lost if you start with the third season. It isn’t, like, The Wire or anything.
