NBC's got trouble.

The Peacock network announced Monday that it is producing The Music Man as its next live musical broadcast project, following the huge success in December of The Sound of Music, which attracted more than 18 million viewers. Its the third such gambit for NBC, which also announced in January that it will do a live musical version of Peter Pan.

No air date has been set for The Music Man, though it's expected to be sometime in 2015. Peter Pan will air Dec. 4, 2014, but no cast has been announced for either.

The Music Man production was announced Monday morning during NBC's presentation at the network upfronts, the annual gathering of advertisers and media journalists in New York to preview the coming season's programming.

NBC took a lot of snark for its earnest live take on The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood (above) but the ratings don't lie. Fox later announced it was doing its own live-event version of Grease.
