New Adventure in the World of 'Harry Potter' Unfolds in Short Film

Harry Potter fans rejoiced earlier this fall when they learned their beloved series would return in a film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But that's not the only movie to take on the wizarding world beyond Harry Potter himself.

YouTuber Wren Weichman produced a short film titled The OMEn Chronicles that takes place 15 years after The Battle of Hogwarts. None of OMEn's characters will be familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the wizards use the same spells as the Hogwarts kids and appear in plumes of smoke almost identical to the ones in the HP films.

The entire filmmaking process took Weichman eight months to complete, though the actual shooting wrapped in just two days. He acted as both director and cameraman for the project.

Weichman, who has been uploading videos to his YouTube channel wrenthereaper since 2006, came up with the idea for the film after meeting his future collaborator, Will Shepherd, at YouTube NextUp, a program that helps YouTubers improve and grow their channels.

"Indie filmmakers like myself have also gravitated towards [YouTube] a lot more because of its freedom, but that comes with the massive drawback of having a lot of noise to swim through," Weichman said. "You have to give them a video that is either hilarious, shocking or something they've never seen before for them to share it."

Weichman ends his film with a call for fans to share it, hoping that those who love Harry Potter will enjoy the trip to his magical world.
