Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's mischievous puppy Brutus has died after accidentally consuming a poisonous mushroom.
In a photo posted to Instagram, Johnson explained the circumstances of Brutus's death and urged his followers to assess their backyards for potentially harmful wildlife.

"As all puppies and dogs do, [Brutus] ate a mushroom while playing outside ..." he wrote. "This mushroom happened to have a lethal toxicity and within hours it was rapidly destroying his liver and immune system to the point of no return."
After placing their pup on life support, Johnson and his wife Lauren made the difficult decision to end Brutus's suffering. "I held his lil' paw as he was finally at peace," Johnson wrote.
He also reminded pet owners that a little awareness can help keep their furry friends safe. "I encourage all of you out there to be mindful of mushrooms in your yards, parks or anywhere outside your dogs play," he continued.
"What looks innocent can be deadly to your lil' family members."
Brutus made a splash on Instagram this summer when he took an accidental swim in Johnson's pool.
