LOS ANGELES -- Set phasers for Green Lantern's Light.

Two of space's most storied franchises are coming together this summer, when the voyage of the starship Enterprise brings the crew in contact with Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern, in a crossover comic-book event from IDW Publishing, CBS Consumer Products and DC Entertainment.

The six-part minseries, "Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War," debuts in July. Veteran Trek comics writer Mike Johnson will tackle the story, with interior art by Angel Hernandez ("Arrow").

“We’ve looked forward to bringing these two iconic universes together for a long time,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW President and COO. “Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply ... logical."

Enterprise crew members will meet Jordan and the entire Green Lantern Corps in an adventure set in Trek’s 23rd Century. And yes, certain Trek characters will come to possess the Green Lantern Corps’ Power Rings when the Federation and Lanterns combine forces to take on a formidable common foe.

“Green Lantern is one of the most popular, storied characters in the history of comic books and a modern DC Comics icon," said Bob Harras, Editor-in-Chief of DC Comics. "An entire universe of Green Lanterns and other supporting characters have grown out from his original adventures in the 1940’s, and this series really showcases the intergalactic scope of the franchise."

Though this intergalactic mashup is without precedent, it's not the first time IDW Publishing, home of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Transformers," "G.I. Joe," "My Little Pony," joined forces with DC Comics (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and dozens of others you've, uh, probably heard of). That happened in 2011, when "Star Trek" teamed up with the Legion of Super-Heroes, a time-traveling team from the 30th and 31st centuries of the DC Comics universe.

But don't look for that "Batman"/"My Little Pony" crossover anytime soon. As awesome as that would be.
