We're starting to see a number of new "direct to the web" video content offerings emerging as the larger Internet television trend continues to accelerate, like If I Can Dream, which is heading to Hulu this season. Now The Tester joins another popular "direct to game console" video series, The Guild, created by actress and gamer geek icon Felicia Day, and airing exclusively on rival Microsoft's Xbox LIVE distribution service.

Like The Guild, The Tester also has gaming as its core theme, with 11 contestants squaring off to compete for a coveted slot as a PlayStation game tester at SCEA San Diego with a $5,000 signing bonus. In typical reality show style, the hopeful game testers will live in a communal house and be filmed for eight episodes filled with zany challenges quasi-related to actual skills allegedly required for game testing.

Each Thursday, starting February 18, a new episode will be available for free download on the PlayStation Network. Check out the trailer and more information on the panelists and judges at TheTester.com.
