Going into 'The Walking Dead' midseason finale, we're worried about almost every character

The Walking Dead is a show that kills characters; that we know. But Sunday's episode played a big part in compounding these already present worries, especially considering that next week is the show's midseason finale.

Carol

In "Crossed," we learned that she's not doing well after being hit by a car last week. She's bleeding internally and, at one point, Dawn called off efforts to save Carol's life. Beth protested but only earns herself a verbal beating from Dawn. Then, confusingly, Dawn handed over the keys to the medicine cabinet and tells Beth to save "the woman" herself.

Dawn

Was this Dawn showing a soft spot? Or was it a set up of some sort?

We'll have to see. Either way, we can all agree that Dawn's not long for this zombie world, right?

Abraham

Then there's Abraham, who spent the entire episode on his knees in the middle of the road. (In case you're wondering, isn't the sign of a person who's in a good place.) He was still reeling from the truth bomb hurled at the group by not-scientist Eugene, and despite best efforts from the ladies of the group, he continues to pout.

By the end of the hour he still very much had no motivation for life, leading me to worry that he's either going to be extremely careless with his in the next few episodes or careless with the lives of others. In all, though, my money is on good ole Abe pulling his ish together.

Daryl

Daryl, meanwhile, I predict, will be anything but together next week as the team heads into the hot zone to save Carol and Beth. Even if the gang attempts the most peaceful rescue possible, he's going to be ready to storm the place, guns blazing and with little to no regard for his own safety. Note to Daryl: If something goes awry, feel free to use Father Gabriel as a human shield.

Father Gabriel

Speaking of padre, he's gone a bit bonkers. This week, Carl's attempts to teach Gabriel how to defend himself were less than effective and by the end of the episode, Gabriel had created an escape hatch and left the church undetected. Why? That's not entirely clear, but he did get a nail through the foot while trying to flee. So, good luck with the whole surviving on your own thing, dude.

This penultimate episode of season 5A was unique in that unlike many episode so far this season, we seemed to spend equal time among the groups we have going on right now. I'm not entirely sure it served the episode well, but it certainly set up a lot of action for next week.

Hold on to your dirty sheriff's hats.

While we wait for the midseason finale, enjoy the best 10 Tweets from "Crossed."

Abraham is having a crisis of faith. Which is ironic seeing as how he's named after the father of faith. #TheWalkingDead— Tejado W. Hanchell (@TWH_PhD) November 24, 2014
