It's a twister! It's a twister!

NBC's production of The Wiz hit the ground running with a gorgeous musical return by the original Dorothy, Stephanie Mills -- who plays Auntie Em in this production -- as well as the debut of newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy.

But the show really made audiences jump out of their seats when a chorus of caped dancers, signifying that famous tornado, came onstage.

Some laughed; some gasped. But all in all, everyone was ready to be transported to Oz on the bizarre, winged creatures.

Of course, since this is an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, there's no shortage of winged creatures around.
