Artists From 1900 Illustrate the Year 2000

What do you think the world will look like 100 years from now? Do you foresee underwater croquet, a baby chick machine and whale-powered public transportation? Probably not. But that’s how artists in 1900 envisioned the year 2000.

At the turn of the 20th century, French artists translated their predictions about the future into sketches that were placed in cigarette and cigar boxes. The drawings were later made into postcards and also displayed at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris.

Though we haven’t seen seagull fishing take off quite yet, the “house rolling through the countryside” does resemble an RV. Kudos on predicting the future of retiree transport.
