Think Secret Shutdown Sets Ugly Precedent For Bloggers

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]OK, so Apple doesn't like rumors about their products, and they like insider sources who leak information even less. But can they force a rumor blog that feeds on such information to shut down? Apparently, they can. Apple and Think Secret have reached a settlement, but it's not the good type of settlement; it's the type of settlement that says "you have to close down." To be fair, the post on Think Secret sounds a bit like Apple simply paid off Think Secret to stop existing, but no details of the settlement have been made public.

As Techdirt correctly notes, going after the source leaking the information is one thing, but going after a blog who posts this information (actually, Think Secret was also sometimes wrong) is a bit harsh. Basically, it means that if you manage to have a good, reliable source of information and start actually posting stuff that's true, your blog might get shut down by a big company with lots of lawyer money. Oh well, I guess bloggers can always resort to posting random rumors with no foundation whatsoever (:.
