Moving to a new city can be tough, but it's even tougher when you're celebrating your birthday apart from your old friends and family.
Mario Garza and his girlfriend Sarah are new transplants to Portland, Oregon. Sarah's birthday on Nov. 6 was the first time she was spending it in her new home, so Garza decided to make it special by gathering hundreds of total strangers to wis his Sarah a happy birthday.

Garza stood in Pioneer Square to record several Portlanders' birthday messages. Hundreds have participated in his birthday message via email and social media, Garza says.
He also set up a Tumblr site called Say Happy Birthday Sarah to let people record their own birthday messages and post them online. The site has more than 20 videos so far.
Birthday well-wishers cand send their notes via Tumblr, Twitter or Instagram.
