A three-legged Wisconsin pit bull named Levi helped ward off a would-be robber armed with a gun last week when he started barking at the intruder, according to the dog's owner.

The intruder ordered the dog's owner, Darcy Cherry, and her boyfriend to lie on the ground before demanding money and firing his gun at the dog.

A bullet brushed Levi's head and wound up stuck in his shoulder, but he's expected to recover just fine. The would-be robber, for his part, ran off without taking anything.

The 15-year-old dog reportedly lost his leg just two years ago when he fell off a path while the family was hiking. He fell ahead of Cherry's son, who may have been hurt had the dog not been walking ahead of him.
