Porsche and Audi weren't the only automakers to unveil Tesla-fighting EVs at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week. There was also a contender from Taiwan that made a surprise debut.

It's called the Thunder Power Sedan and it's Tawain's best take on a futuristic, luxury EV.

Although the car was created by the Thunder Power power tool company, of all things, storied Italian coachbuilder Zagato penned the the design and seems to have been inspired by the lines of Volvos and Maseratis of late. That chromed concentric oval-style grille, however, is all Thunder Power.

Underneath that carefully crafted Italian body lies some impressive all-electric tech. The powertrain is offered in two performance levels: 308- or 429-horsepower. No matter the output, power is routed to the rear wheels, good for a 0 to 62 mph sprint in just under 5.0 seconds and a 155-mph top speed. If drivers are judicious with their right foot, Thunder Power estimates a 400-mile range per charge from the Sedan but says a 186-mile range can be achieved with a quick 30-minute charge.

Turning to the interior, the cabin design, too, appears cribbed from current Volvo -- especially the 2016 XC90 -- with plenty of matte-finished wood and bright screens. Notably, however, it seems the entire dash face is one expansive display operated by an Audi-like joystick between the front two seats.
