Not surprisingly, they’re turning to online video so fans can experience the event, with a special site where fans can watch Tiger’s round hole-by-hole from the Accenture Match Play Championship.

The site won’t go live until tomorrow on PGATour.com, but we’ve got a preview of it below. As you can see, you’ll be able to watch each hole individually, as well as see Tiger’s scorecard, which will be updated in real-time. Since it’s a Match Play tournament (head-to-head competition against another player), you’ll also see the scorecard of Tiger’s opponent. There will also be live blogging from a golf reporter, as well as a live bracket so you can see who Tiger might play next, assuming he wins.

This is a smart move for the PGA Tour, since the much anticipated event takes place during the workday and is being broadcast on the relatively low distribution Golf Channel. It’s also another win for Turner Sports, who co-producers PGATour.com, which is just coming off an impressive implementation of Facebook status updates with NBA All Star Game festivities.

As for why Tiger’s return is such a big deal for those of you non-golf fans out there, an ESPN poll this morning indicated that 49% of people will watch the Accenture event only because Tiger is playing.
