New Yorkers didn't have to bother with cable news pundits to track the presidential election returns on Tuesday -- the results lit up the night sky. The iconic Empire State Building kept a running tally of electoral votes for both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney throughout the evening.
As the votes rolled in, the skyscraper's spire illuminated with red and blue LED lights to reflect vote tallies.
Photographer Lisa Bettany captured the building's lights and created this time-lapse video to show off the role New York's skyline played in this year's election.
And when President Obama was officially declared the winner, the Empire State Building followed suit with a splash of blue.
