About a week ago, Gaia Online announced the integration of Widevine's DRM, allowing Time Warner and Sony to show their content on Gaia's virtual social network without fear of content piracy. The three million monthly user strong network today has recieved an undisclosed amount of investment from Time Warner studios, according to a preliminary report from VentureBeat.

Gaia is a youth community inspired by manga and anime that launched in 2003.

Gaia Online has previously recieved investment from Sony, as well, also for an undisclosed sum in addition to their original $8.93 million in VC funding. Investors in the original round included Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures.

Sony indicated at the time that Gaia Online was central to their new strategy of bringing virtual worlds into more mainstream usage and finding new, interactive ways in which to distribute video content.
