What Parsons hasn't said to the press is that he's necessarily going to sue Google: he just says he'll pursue the infringements. He's even quoted as saying "We'd like to have our content displayed on these platforms, but on a basis that it respects our rights as the owner of that content." That makes it sound like this is a negotiating tactic, and Time Warner actually wants to cut a deal with Google for a share of the revenue. It's early here and I might be conflating two separate facts, but didn't Universal Music threaten to sue MySpace and YouTube, then turn around and do a deal (see the update)? This will no doubt be spun as "YouTube is Getting SuedTube", but I don't see any mention of that in Parson's comments. Likewise, MySpace said right before the YouTube-Google deal that they may block YouTube, but this week it sounds like they're more interested in getting their cut of Google's ad pie. Frankly, suing Goog-Tube would be a waste of time when it presents such a lucrative source of revenue for these content companies.
