Sharing articles with existing TimesPeople friends is great, but what if you want to share or comment on an article with someone outside of TimesPeople? Today, TimesPeople users can link their Twitter accounts to their TimePeople accounts, thus gaining the ability to tweet directly from the New York Times website.

All TimesPeople users need to do is link their existing TimesPeople account to their Twitter account. If you don't have a TimesPeople account, you can create one and link it with your Twitter profile upon sign-up.

Your TimesPeople activity list will also include your tweets from NYTimes.com (don't worry, only your tweets from within the NYTimes will show up in your activity log). You can also choose to import your Twitter bio, URL and avatar into your TimesPeople account. Again, existing TimesPeople settings won't be overwritten.

To send a tweet from TimesPeople, just click on the Twitter button in the share articles tool on the right side of any article page. You'll get a nice AJAX window and have the ability to share or comment on the article to your Twitter account instantly!

When TimesPeople launched last year, our only real criticism was that the service might be too limited -- because it is concentrated entirely on The New York Times online. By adding Twitter functionality, the Times broadens its scope a bit and offers users an incentive to sign-up for an account.
