UK-based Tired & Tested, which will launch officially on September 7th, is the latest contender in the sports networking category - it's pretty good. It has an interesting pedigree, too - founder Chris Ward is credited with the media buzz around social networking site FriendsReunited (he ran the PR campaign), while fellow team member Mike Lee was part of London's successful 2012 Olympic bid. Supporters include Terry Venables, the England soccer team's assistant manager, and top sports agencies SFX and Aura Sports. But despite being London-based, the site is a global effort.
Tired & Tested is a really solid attempt, and I assume the few minor glitches will be fixed before launch day. I'd like to see more customization - like inserting YouTube videos into your page - or at least some kind of personalization on the profile pages. You wouldn't even need to go as far as pasting html (ala MySpace layouts) - I'm sure some sports-themed skins would be popular. RSS support, permalinking for the blog entries and the ability to import an external blog (ala Facebook) would be nice, too. Another noticeable issue: they skew heavily towards UK sports, which will seriously hamper their global expansion. Those things aside, they're off to a decent start.
