It hardly snows in Japan's capital city, but this week, central Tokyo received a rare 6cm of snow.

The busy metropolis, so unaccustomed to dealing with this much snow, has ground to a halt. The famously punctual train lines have slowed to a crawl, affecting some 41,000 passengers, said the Japan Times. 40 people in Tokyo have also been sent to the hospital.

It seems Tokyoites are coping with the mayhem by sculpting some truly terrifying creatures out of the snow.

"I wish people would stop making these whenever it snows."

The last time this happened in Tokyo in 2014, the snow creatures came out to play as well.
