Olympic Diver Tom Daley Reveals Gay Relationship on YouTube

Olympic diver Tom Daley has come out as bisexual, announcing the news through a YouTube video. The 19-year-old British athlete spoke openly about his relationship with a man in a 5-minute clip that has gone viral, amassing almost 1 million views in a few hours.

"Come spring this year, my life changed, massively, when I met someone, and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything feels great, and, well, that someone is a guy," Daley says in the video.

"Of course I still fancy girls, but, I mean, right now I'm dating a guy and I couldn't be happier," he adds. "It feels safe, and it really does feel right."

Daley tweeted the video to his almost 2.5 million followers.

Got something I need to say...not been an easy decision to make, hope you can support me! :) http://t.co/oOrDEiChGd— Tom Daley (@TomDaley1994) December 2, 2013

Daley says he chose to reveal his relationship after being misquoted in an interview earlier this year. He also talked about his father who died in 2011 from cancer and how his family and friends have reacted to the news.

"In an ideal world, I wouldn't be doing this video because it doesn't matter," Daley said. "Is it a big deal? Well, I don't think so ... but I wanted to say something."

Daley won the bronze medal for the 10-meter platform event in the 2012 summer games in London. He catapulted to fame in England when qualifying for the 2008 Being Olympics at the age of 14.
