Mad Max: Fury Road is the surprise feminist summer action flick the world desperately needed, but the concept of a car chase movie centered around a bunch of women kicking ass is still a difficult concept for some people to grasp.

One reporter at a Cannes Film Festival panel seemed very concerned for Tom Hardy, who played the titular role but understood when it was time to let Charlize Theron and her squad of escaped brides take the wheel.

Skip to 9:45 to watch Tom Hardy shut down the sexist question, which seems too stupid to be true.

The Toronto Star's Peter Howell explains that he can feel "outgunned by estrogen" with his wife, daughter, sisters and mother and asks, "As you were reading the script, did you ever think, 'Why are all these women in here? I thought this was supposed to be a man’s movie?'"

"No." Hardy replies to applause and laughter from the audience. "Not for one minute. I mean, that's kind of obvious."
