More than a year after a car crash left him in a coma, actor and comedian Tracy Morgan told NBC's Today show that he is still healing, but he vowed to come back to comedy.

"Right now, my goal is just to heal and to get better because I am not 100% yet, I’m not," Morgan said in the Monday morning interview with Matt Lauer. "And when I’m there, you’ll know it, I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise you."

Morgan, 46, suffered severe head trauma, a broken leg and broken ribs when a Wal-Mart truck crashed into the limo he was traveling in on the New Jersey Turnpike in June 2014. Morgan and his entourage were returning from a show in Delaware.

His friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair was killed, and two others were seriously injured.

Morgan, best known for his roles on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, said his family and friends have helped him keep his spirits up during his yearlong recovery. He said that he did not remember details of the crash and was in a coma for two weeks following the crash. He woke up to find out McNair had been killed.

Morgan, who was joined by his lawyer, Benedict Morelli, became emotional when speaking about McNair. The two grew up together in New York City, and McNair was a friend and mentor to Morgan.

"He was a loving man, and he was a warm man, and he was a good man. It just hurts me to see that he's gone," said Morgan.

Morgan also told Lauer that he watched several clips of the crash to gain a better understanding of what exactly happened. Watch the entire interview with Lauer below:

The deadly crash led to a lengthy lawsuit against Wal-Mart, which was settled just last week. The truck driver, Kevin Roper, faces several criminal charges including death by auto for his role in the crash. An investigation estimated Roper was driving 65 mph at the time of the crash, and had not slept for more than 24 hours.

Wal-Mart also reached a settlement with McNair's two children in January.
