TreeHugger Acquired by Discovery Communications for $10M

TreeHugger, the popular blog about eco-friendliness, has been acquired by Discovery Communications, owners of the Discovery Channel. The price is said to be $10 million.

The partnership will help TreeHugger reach its goals of getting mainstream attention (and compliance), taking its message to the masses. With Discovery's large network of online and television properties, this shouldn't be too difficult of a goal to achieve. Inclusion in the Planet Green websites that are being created by Discovery is part of this deal. Additional resources being poured into TreeHugger's online publication means better and more frequent content, as well as more social interaction options with writers as well as articles.

TreeHugger already has a social website called Hugg, where user-generated content can be submitted to the site and shared across the Internet in an effort to raise awareness regarding the environment. In related news, the Travel Channel, which is part of the Discovery Communications family, has also acquired the travel blog World Hum, earlier this year.

Ed note: Awesome, time to flip this thing!
