Top 40 Vines Chosen in Tribeca Film Festival's #6SecFilms Contest

Tribeca Film Festival this year challenged people to use Twitter's Vine app to create six-second films -- with a "beginning, middle and end" -- for a chance to win money and notoriety.

More than 400 Vines were submitted, and on Thursday after a panel judged the entries, the Tribeca Film Festival announced the 40 finalists.

The #6SecFilms contest was broken down into four film categories: auteur, genre, series and animate. Here's a look at some of the finalists.

Finalists in Auteur

Category description: "These Vines told a story or script that was truly unique. A tiny, concentrated expression of the filmmaker's vision."

Finalists in Animate

Category description: "This category was for filmmakers who saw Vine as the perfect medium for some creative animation and don't want to deal with the live-action riffraff."

Finalists in Genre

Category description: "This is the category for all the sci-fi Vines, western Vines, LOLcat Vines, and comedy Vines. These shortlisters showed us how a genre film can thrive in six seconds."

Finalists in Series

Category description: "For those that had a story too big for just one Vine, we let them make it a trilogy."
