Tumblr -- home of the blogger and land of the .GIF -- is planning a unique, true-to-style approach to covering the upcoming presidential debates: it's live-GIFing them.

That's right: As potentially viral moments happen on stage, Tumblr's team -- along with a reporter from The Guardian -- will be turning debate video into GIFs at lightning speed.

Tumblr has been trying to amp up its image as a media force in politics this election cycle, having hired several reporters to cover the space. The live-GIF debate coverage is the next step in that process.

"Our research indicates that most Americans now consume their hard news in the form of animated GIFs," wrote Tumblr editor-in-chief Chris Mohney in a release, "and we take the potential of legitimate GIF journalism very seriously, as should anyone still working in the old-school blog-focused model of reporting."

Tumblr bloggers Topher Price, Bobby Finger, Lacey Micallef and "Mr. GIF" will join Guardian reporter Adam Gabbatt, the latter of which will be running a live-blog contextualizing the GIFs made by the Tumblr team.

Here's the full debate schedule; Tumblr's live-GIFing will commence at 9 p.m. ET sharp on each night. Mashable will bring you a post featuring many more ways you can watch the debates online shortly.
