Hasbro has ditched the classic Twister mat for its latest version of the game -- Twister Dance -- opting instead for a digital setup complete with a sphere-shaped console, LED lights and a cable to connect your music player.

The mat has been replaced by movable colored spots. The console syncs to music, and players must match their dance steps to the corresponding flashing lights.

Twister Dance comes with five songs, including a "Till the World Ends" Twister remix from Britney Spears. A full music video of the remix premieres Sept. 9 at midnight on the game's website. The video features Spears, back-up dancers and Twister Dance (see below).

"I think kids will love rocking the spots and dancing to the music as much as my boys and I do -- it’s a

lot of fun,” Spears said in a statement.

Other pre-programmed songs are Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair," Kesha's "We R Who We R" and more.

Players can use their own songs by connecting any audio device to the console, which detects beats per minute and matches it to a compatible set of dance moves or placements of the feet, Tina Walsh, Hasbro's senior global brand manager of girls gaming, tells Mashable.

"How we listen to music has changed so much in the past few years that we knew technology would be essential in sharing music and dance moves in a way that still worked with the iconic colors and spots of Twister," Walsh says.

This isn't Twister's first foray into dance or mat-less format. Hasbro previously released Twister Moves that called out moves via CD. And some outdoor Twister games don't depend on the traditional mat.
