Twitter got a little more festive when it announced that users can now display their birthdays on their profiles. The social network plans on rolling out the feature to all users throughout the day on Monday.
Users' birthdays will now be displayed on the upper-left-hand side of their profile pages, under their profile photos and just beneath the line indicating when they joined Twitter. Here's comedian Kevin Hart's Twitter profile for a sneak peek of what to expect:
When Twitter users' birthdays roll around, you'll even see an animated overlay of neon balloons briefly fly by.
The update also gives mobile some love:
"Every day, millions of people celebrate the important events in their lives on Twitter -- from public events like the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ignited #LoveWins to more personal ones like a friend’s birthday," Twitter product manager Ricardo Castro wrote in a company blog on Monday. "We’re excited to make sharing these personal celebrations even easier."
Getting in the birthday spirit is pretty simple. Just head over to the "Edit profile" option on your Twitter profile page, then pick the right month, day and year, followed by one of several privacy settings. Twitter. As Castro points out, the visibility setting for your birth year is separate from the setting for your birth month and day, so you're welcome to share as much (or as little) about your birthday as you're comfortable with.
The feature is also entirely optional -- so if you don't feel like sharing any birthday info, well, that's okay, too.
