Although many of the Twitter-based games listed here are quiz or trivia-based Twitter accounts, they are still fun distractions, and sometimes a good brain exercise. Here are some of the top games based on the microblogging site:

1. Twivia (@playtwivia)

Twivia is just as it sounds like - you answer trivia questions via Twitter. Twivia will ask a question and the first person to @reply the answer gets points, specified in every Tweet. Twivia always tweets out the answers after someone gets it correct, so you don't have to keep wondering about the answer. You can even suggest questions to Twivia.

2. Twitbrain (@twitbrain)

Twitbrain is a Twitter game for math and engineering nerds. Twitbrain will post a math problem (i.e. 1 -minus- 35 +plus+ 41). The game then becomes about speed - how fast can you calculate the answer AND @reply it to Twitbrain? There's even a scoreboard at the Twitbrain website.

3. Tweetbomb (@tweetbomb)

Tweetbombing isn't a game as much as it is just a fun activity to join. Tweetbomb suggests a Twitter user a day to @reply with absolutely no text. The hope is to completely confuse the target until they finally realize that they've been the target of a massive Tweetbomb. Hopefully someday you'll be the target.

4. BeatMyTweet (@beatmytweet)

BeatmyTweet is similar to TwitBrain and Twivia, except that instead of questions or math problems, it sends out head-scratching word scrambles every hour. Do you know what OGICMAAERMN is unscrambled? You're going to have to check out BeatMyTweet to find out the answer.

5. WhoseTweet

WhoseTweet tests out how well you know your Twitter friends, or at least how well you can associate Tweets with Twitter usernames. WhoseTweet bombards you with a series of 20 tweets from your Twitter friends and asks you to identify who it belongs to. It's really quite tough when you have hundreds of Twitter friends.

6. Tweet140 (@tweet140)

Follow Tweet140. Once you do, Tweet140 will track your tweets to see how close to 140 characters each one comes. Try for a week to see how high of a score you can get. You can even search for your friend's scores on the Tweet140 website.
