Not a fan of Twitter's "Favorite" button? It looks like the platform is testing alternatives.

Various Twitter users are reporting that the site is swapping out its signature "Favorite" feature in exchange for a "Like" or "Star" button, according to a report from The Next Web.

The "Favorite" button serves not only as a bookmark to return to a users' tweet again the future, but more commonly as a way to affirm, applaud or -- in Facebook terms -- "Like" a tweet.

Although it appears only a limited group is currently involved in the experiment, Twitter hasn't responded to a request for comment. Tweets about the test started popping up late Monday night:

The star-shaped "Favorite" button has been used since the site launched in 2008, but in May, the company placed more emphasis on it with the redesign of its tweet layout. In addition, Twitter's latest makeover includes a more prominently displayed "Favorite" section on a users' profile page.

Meanwhile, according to All Things D, Twitter once considered implementing a "Thanks" button instead of "Favorite." Also being tossed around in the process was "Star" and "Like" functionality.

What do you think of a "Like" and "Star" option for Twitter? Would a "Like" button be too similar to Facebook? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
