Cassette tape and boom box, say hello to Twitter #Music.

Twitter has announced the shut down of its mobile app #Music -- yes, it still existed. The service was pulled from the App Store Friday afternoon and will stop working on devices that already downloaded it on April 18.

Later this afternoon, we will be removing Twitter #music from the App Store. If you have the app, it will continue to work until April 18.— Twitter Music (@TwitterMusic) March 21, 2014

The announcement comes just a year after Twitter introduced #Music. The standalone music service sought to help users discover new artists and bands, and despite positive reviews, couldn't compete in the noisy mobile music service space.

Twitter says it still plans to stay tuned in.

We continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter.— Twitter Music (@TwitterMusic) March 21, 2014
