So much for that song and dance.
Twitter has backed out of talks to buy SoundCloud, the popular online community for sharing and discovering music, according to a report Tuesday in The Wall Street Journal. The publication quotes an anonymous source who says simply "the numbers didn't add up."

Re/code and Der Speigel are also reporting that Twitter allowed an exclusive period for acquisition talks to expire.
The news comes one day after Re/code first reported that Twitter was considering an acquisition of SoundCloud. The deal would likely have been Twitter's largest acquisition by far as SoundCloud most recently had a valuation of $700 million.
